Does Apple have anything new this year?
Today, the annual Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) kicked off with a keynote speech by CEO Tim Cook!
At this conference, Apple announced a series of updates to its operating systems, services, and software, including a new system naming convention and a new design language called Liquid Glass.
According to Cook, Apple has completely revamped the naming convention for its operating systems (specifically, the versioning method), moving away from version numbers and instead using the year (starting with 2026) for naming.
Here’s the specifics: This year’s iPhone will run on the iOS 26 series, and the Mac will run on macOS Tahoe 26. Together with iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26, these form a complete system lineup. In the future, these numbers will change with the year, making it easier for users to determine whether their Apple devices are running the latest software version.
So, what are the key features of the new 26 series? One major highlight showcased by Apple is the new “Liquid Glass” design language, which brings smooth translucency and glossy glass-like effects to app interfaces.
This design is inspired by visionOS from the Vision Pro augmented reality device, adapting to light and dark modes and dynamically responding to motion through real-time rendering.
